A guide, and a catalogue

Contemporary art in Cyprus

A hand-checked guide to the island's galleries, museums and artist-run spaces, every entry sourced and dated, published alongside a catalogue of forty plates drawn by machine from numeric seeds.

Nothing here is invented. The institutions are real and cited; the plates are generated and have no author. What that means.

Survey of a Dropped Frame, generative plate from seed 542097608Nine centres, each emitting 34 closed rings whose radius grows as the 0.7 power of the ring index, so the spacing tightens as they widen. Each ring is a thirty-segment polygon pushed off true by a sinusoid whose amplitude grows with the index, and both stroke weight and opacity fall away as the rings get larger. After Copper Spoil, generative plate from seed 1836377774One rectangle divided recursively. At each node the split usually runs across the longer side, at a ratio between 0.3 and 0.7. Division stops at depth eight, below 34 units, or on a 7% chance at any node. Every surviving cell is stroked with an inset, about one in five in an accent, and about one in ten also takes a translucent accent fill. Evidence of the Slow Channel, generative plate from seed 2919223183Forty-six bands stacked from the top down, each one a closed shape lying between two sine curves of differing amplitude, frequency and phase. The bands overlap, because each advances the cursor by only 62% of its own height. About one band in six is filled in an accent at higher opacity than the rest; the stack stops early if it runs past the bottom edge. Model of the Green Line, generative plate from seed 891105515Streamlines through a fixed vector field. Each of 220 lines starts at a random point and takes 110 steps of five units, turning at every step by the sum of three sinusoids of its current position. A line stops early if it leaves the plate. Roughly one line in seven is drawn in an accent rather than the ink colour, and each is given its own width and opacity. This plate is seed 891105515 in the Kyrenia Blue palette. © 2026 artcyp.com
