ARTCYP Contemporary art in Cyprus

Guide ·

The guide re-checked, entry by entry, against the institutions’ own sites

Fifteen organisations, every one verified against a primary source. The pass found a dead domain, a broken link and two descriptions that were simply wrong.

Written by this site about itself. There is no byline because there is no reporter.

Every entry in the guide has been checked against the organisation’s own website rather than against a listings page about it, and each one now records which source it was checked against and on what date.

The pass was worth running. One listed directory, culturespot.cy, no longer resolves at all on any public resolver, and has been removed rather than left as a recommendation. The Limassol Municipal Art Gallery link pointed at a host that no longer answers, and now points at the gallery’s page on the municipality’s own site.

Two descriptions were wrong in a way that mattered. The Visit Nicosia listing was credited to the municipality; it is published by the city’s tourism board. Phytorio was described as a space run in association with the artists’ association ΕΙ.ΚΑ, which has it backwards. Phytorio is that association, founded in Nicosia in 2006 and since renamed.

The Cyprus College of Art was listed as an art school. Its own site says plainly that it is not a teaching college but an artists’ studio space, so that is what the guide says now.

Entries carry the date they were checked, and anything older than 180 days is marked as due for re-checking rather than being presented as current.
